About Carol Staines

For me, it's all about the colour. In both oils and watercolour I love to reflect the glorious colours that nature provides. The shapes and compositions of my paintings are stimulated by the colours that I want to capture. I see something; a bunch of peonies or a vista of rolling hills and the colours imprint, then develop further in my imagination. I don't want to faithfully copy what is before me, I want to celebrate the captured image in a way that might speak different things to every viewer of my artwork. It's a bit like writing a short story, or even a novel, with paint and brushes.
