About Daniel Shipton
My art is created to bring a smile to your face and intrigue the eye, aiming to initially please the eye and then continue to reward you the more you look, creating a fresh feeling when viewed. My work is influenced by the human being. This theme manifests itself in two ways. One takes the human form and reduces it to key elements that indicate the subtleties of a human figure. Stripping away the superfluous features, carving the image from the page predominantly using ink, respecting the viewer and enabling you to take part in the creation of the image, resulting in each person that views these works having a very unique interpretation depending on their own experiences of form. Secondly I explore the human being using miniature figures of human life, placing these in an environment interacting with larger than life daily objects and natural creatures. Aiming to please and amuse the eye while conveying how in the grand scheme of things us human beings are only a footnote in comparison to the natural world and also convey how we ignore or treat flippantly the little things that gave or give us pleasure in a world full of distractions.
