You Warm my Heart (2) (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Elizabeth Westcott

Research shows that being in nature can decrease cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases endorphins (the feel-good hormones). Simply viewing beautiful trees and flowers can be good for us. This painting aims to achieve a similar response in the viewer.

Inspired by a Herefordshire tree-line, and wildflowers growing at the edge of a field of yellow crops, I created this painting with mixed-media on canvas. Starting with textured acrylic paint, I splattered inks for detail. Then I added highlights of gold leaf and gold dust to represent the ‘treasure’ that is the beauty of nature. With golden and green hues, this original artwork expresses how the natural world can warm our hearts.
