Original artwork description
A piece of striped cloth, folded and draped, becomes the entire world of this painting. The yellow, amber and rust bands twist and curve with the folds of the fabric, the pattern itself becoming a map of the form beneath.
This work began with a fascination with rhythm, the way repeating stripes behave differently on a flat surface versus a folded one, bending, narrowing, breaking apart and rejoining. A single eye-shaped fold at the centre anchors the composition, a quiet focal point hidden within the pattern.
A study in colour, intricate thread texture, geometry and the unexpected beauty of ordinary fabric.
