Wonder bag (Wundertüte) (2013) Original Acrylic Painting by Ralf Schmidt

To me, “Wonder Bag” is an image of the joy of embracing the unknown. A nighttime walk begins without a specific destination. You step outside, drawn by the lights, not knowing what you’ll encounter.
The large bag becomes a symbol of what lies ahead. We can’t know what life has in store for us. Perhaps something beautiful awaits us, perhaps something unexpected, or something we can’t make sense of at first. For me, what matters isn’t knowing the contents in advance, but being ready to accept them.
The nighttime atmosphere represents this special state between the familiar and the unknown. You leave the safety of everyday life behind, follow the lights, and let the moment guide you for a while. “Surprise Bag” is therefore also an invitation not to always want to plan and control everything—but to go out and see what happens.
