Winter Sun and Blue Shadows
On a clear winter day, sunlight changes the color of snow completely.
Long shadows from the trees cross the foreground in blue and violet lines, dividing the snow into irregular areas of light. Between them appear cream, pale yellow, pink and soft lavender, colors created by the winter sun and reflected sky.
The bare trees are also full of color. Their trunks carry ochre, rose, violet and green, while one tall evergreen remains dark against the brilliant blue sky.
What interested me most was the rhythm created by the shadows. They connect the trees with the foreground and turn an open area of snow into one of the most active parts of the painting.
The result is a winter landscape filled not with coldness, but with sunlight, color and the particular clarity of a bright winter day.
