Winter Creek at Dusk (2026) Original Oil Painting by Paul Cheng

I wanted to capture the quiet, slightly mysterious atmosphere of a winter woodland and its winding creek. The water leads the eye from the foreground into the dark trees, while the last traces of warm light in the sky soften the cold landscape. Using muted blue-grays, deep greens, and blacks, I simplified the trees, snow, and water with spontaneous brushwork, allowing the recognizable landscape to gradually merge into abstract shapes and rhythms.
