Where my Heart grows (2025) Original Watercolour by Ellen Kyrychenko

18 x 25.5 x 0.1cm (unframed) / 13 x 21cm (actual image size)

£220

This original watercolour painting is deeply personal and rooted in my Ukrainian heritage. Having grown up in Ukraine, the sight of endless fields of sunflowers and golden wheat is woven into some of my earliest and most cherished memories. These familiar landscapes have always carried a strong sense of home for me.

At the centre of the composition, a bright yellow wild sunflower is painted with delicate layers of watercolour, revealing the translucent quality of its petals and the intricate texture of its centre. Beside it, a mature ear of wheat bends gently under its own weight, creating a quiet contrast between the freshness of the flower and the late-summer character of the grain.

For me, the sunflower and wheat represent more than elements of the landscape. They are symbols of home, resilience and the enduring warmth of the land that shaped who I am. This painting is my personal recollection of my homeland, captured at a quiet and reflective moment.
