3D mixed media art What Loss Taught Me explores the emotional lessons that come through loss, change, and transformation. Created with epoxy resin, wood, sculptural faces, and layered textures, this original 36 × 36 inch artwork reflects the memories we carry and the strength we discover when life asks us to begin again.
At the center of the artwork are three dimensional sculptural faces, each covering a different part of itself—the eyes, ears, and mouth. Inspired by the familiar idea of see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, these figures carry a more personal meaning within the work.
The face covering the eyes represents the things we sometimes choose not to see—the realities that are difficult to accept and the moments we must eventually face. The face covering the ears speaks to learning which voices to listen to and which ones to leave behind. The face covering the mouth represents silence, restraint, and the understanding that not everything needs to be spoken.
Together, the three faces represent the emotional boundaries and wisdom that can emerge from difficult chapters of life.
The dark, heavily textured surface creates a sense of depth and introspection. Layers, marks, sculptural forms, and fragments come together to suggest memories that remain even after circumstances change.
