A Narrow Road Beside the Mountain (2011) Photograph by sangwon jeon

38 x 25 x 0.2cm / 38 x 25cm (actual image size)

£494.5

This photograph follows a dirt path along the outer wall of Beomeosa Temple on Mount Geumjeong in Busan, its rooflines curving upward on the left in a long, unbroken sweep of dark tile and painted eaves. The wall beneath is built from raw stone and ochre clay, capped with the same tiles that shape the roof above, a quiet reminder that the boundary and the building share one language of construction. Ivy climbs thick and unchecked along the opposite side, softening the path's edges with a wildness the architecture itself resists. Further ahead, the granite peaks of Mount Geumjeong rise through a gap in the trees, jagged and pale against the sky, offering a glimpse of the wilderness the temple has always lived beside. There's a working, unshowy quality to this corner of Beomeosa — no grand gate, just a path monks and visitors alike have worn smooth over generations of ordinary footsteps. Printed on fine art paper. Sold unframed; ready to be mounted or framed to the collector's preference.
