I painted this scene from a quiet window-side perspective, creating a dialogue between the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica in the distance and the intimate café setting in the foreground. The evening light breaks through the clouds, bathing the historic architecture in a gentle glow, while the red flowers and warm-toned objects on the table symbolize travel memories and human warmth. Through the contrast of interior and exterior spaces, I sought to capture a poetic moment suspended between history and time.
I employed impressionistic brushwork and simplified forms to depict the architecture, sky, and interior furnishings with rhythmic, expressive strokes. Contrasts between warm and cool tones create depth and atmosphere, while the window frame acts as a natural compositional device directing the viewer’s gaze toward the basilica dome. Varied paint application and energetic brushwork enhance the movement of light, giving the scene both a romantic and contemporary character.
