Vase Composition III’25 operates at the intersection of drawing, textile, and object, expanding the language of contemporary fiber art into the realm of quiet spatial intervention.

At first glance, the work presents a familiar still-life motif—vessels arranged in balance. Yet this familiarity is immediately destabilized by reduction: forms are distilled into continuous, gestural outlines, hovering between presence and absence. The line does not merely describe; it constructs a perceptual field in which figure and ground remain in constant negotiation.

The artist's use of punch needle technique introduces a sculptural dimension to the surface. Wool and alpaca fibers accumulate into a low relief, creating a topography that absorbs and refracts light. This tactile quality resists the flatness traditionally associated with drawing, positioning the work within a dialogue between image and object.

Material choice is central to the work's conceptual framework. Linen, left largely unmediated, acts as both support and active field—its natural irregularities and tonal variations reinforcing an ethos aligned with wabi-sabi and material honesty. The restrained palette further emphasizes process over illusion, presence over representation.

Scale plays a decisive role: enlarged beyond the intimacy of domestic textile, the composition acquires an architectural calm. It anchors the surrounding space not through dominance, but through equilibrium—inviting prolonged viewing and a heightened awareness of surface, rhythm, and silence.

In Vase Composition III’25, the language of still life is rearticulated as a meditative structure, where gesture, material, and time converge.
