Vanishing Perspectives is a contemporary architectural painting from the Architecture of Memory series, exploring the way our perception of space changes as a place moves further into memory.
Architectural forms create a shifting sense of perspective, drawing the eye into a space that never fully resolves. Walls, openings and fragments of buildings suggest depth and direction, yet their boundaries gradually dissolve into expressive marks, layered textures and areas of exposed dark canvas.
The painting plays with the traditional idea of perspective as a system that makes space stable and measurable. Here, that stability begins to disappear. Lines break, structures overlap and familiar architectural elements become uncertain, reflecting the way remembered places are continually altered by time and distance.
Rather than depicting a specific location, Vanishing Perspectives captures the experience of trying to reconstruct one — when the overall sense of a place remains, but its precise spatial relationships can no longer be recovered.
Part of Svitlana Zezekalo’s ongoing Architecture of Memory series, the work considers architecture as a language of recollection, where fragments of walls, passages and spatial depth survive even as the complete image fades.
