Underwater love (2023) Original Mixed-media Painting by Ana Patitú

92 x 60 x 2cm (unframed) / 92 x 60cm (actual image size)

£1,540.53

Ana Patitú and Valeria Pesce met at Esther Montoriol Gallery, and the fascination for each other's works has been mutual. First, there was an exchange of works, and then the idea of bringing together Valeria's fish with Ana's swimmers emerged. Trials, meetings, conversations, doubts, the initial results, and the shared joy of seeing that yes, this strange coexistence is possible.

Ana and Valeria work with different languages and techniques and come from different cultures, but they share a common background: Italy. What unites them in their work is the theme of water, the medium in which their swimmers and fish immerse themselves, this amniotic fluid that envelops and protects them.

Ana's swimmers are expert beings, seasoned, their movements executed to perfection. They dive, showcasing their sharply defined muscles in a dramatic black and white, in a murky pastel-colored water that softens the visual impact. Theirs is a possible, real dream, but the unexpected awaits them—a gang of giant koi that accompanies them on their journey.

Valeria's fish are painted with the same emotion that stirs her brush. They are wandering souls that intervene in the activities of expert swimmers, protecting and teaching them another possible path—the path of coexistence and emotion, swimming together towards nature.
