Original artwork description:

This is an outdoor painting, painted on site in Germany's oldest town - Trier. Visitors to an art market who saw some of my paintings of panoramic views gave me the tip about this view. It's what you see when you look down over Trier from the terrace of the Weisshaus (the White House!:-) – a former stately home and now a restaurant perched up on the hillside. Painting a whole city is a bit of a challenge and I have kept it simple by picking out the typical skyline and characteristic buildings so that the Trierers can instantly recognize it but mostly focusing on how it is such a green place with its many trees and parks and the rolling, forested hills beyond. The main feature of Trier is, of course, the river Mosel which drew the first settlers here and, later, the Romans. Trier is the “wine capital” of this part of Germany and so, with its many old buildings from different epochs right back to impressive Roman ones, it's a great place for a day out.
Accompanied by my border collie Islay, I found a spot at the railing bordering the Weißhaus terrace and painted this view on a fine, late summer afternoon. The Mosel was so silvery bright that I have left it white here to emphasize the way it reflected the light, making Trier a bright welcoming place.

“Trier from Weißhaus” is sold mounted and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Materials used:

Watercolor paper, Windsor & Newton watercolour paints
