I visited the poppy installation on 11th November this year. Crowds packed the walkway around the moat to get a look at this impressive memorial. It was a simple idea, complex in design and perversely beautiful, baring in mind what it represented: 800,000+ deaths. In the couple of hours I was there, I looked, took a few photos and made some sketches. These small pieces are the beginning of a series. Light washes for the sky and intense scarlet for poppies.
