100x80 cm
Acrylic on canvas, 2022
The ceramic rooster from the ruined city of Borodyanka has become one of the symbols of the indomitability of the Ukrainian people.
In Ukrainian culture, the rooster — known as Budisvit — is an ancient folkloric symbol of light, fire, and the triumph of good over evil.
I created this artwork in May 2022 during an art residency in Barcelona, working daily at Port Gallery, alongside my painting Dove of Peace. Both pieces were born in a time of emotional intensity, when I was reflecting on war, resilience, and the deep connection to my homeland.
The painting combines textured acrylic brushstrokes with transparent layers, conveying both fragility and strength — a visual metaphor for survival and rebirth.
It will be shipped rolled in a protective tube.
