Original Pastel Wildlife Painting

Clash of Titans is an original pastel painting capturing the extraordinary power, movement and instinct of two tigers in a dramatic encounter.

Unlike many of my wildlife portraits, which explore quieter moments of expression and connection, this painting is about energy and confrontation.

I wanted to capture that split second when two powerful animals challenge one another — the tension in their bodies, the intensity of their expressions and the extraordinary physical presence of the tiger.

The interaction between the two animals creates a sense of movement and narrative. Rather than simply observing a portrait, the viewer becomes witness to a moment unfolding in the wild.

The artwork was created entirely by hand using professional artist-quality pastels on paper. I gradually developed the animals through many layers, combining softer areas with extremely fine pastel strokes to create the texture of the fur, the distinctive tiger markings and the feeling of movement within the composition.

Creating the striped coats was particularly challenging, as every marking needed to follow the structure and movement of the animals rather than simply sitting on the surface of the fur.

For me, wildlife realism is not only about capturing appearance. I want each painting to communicate something about the character, behaviour and extraordinary presence of the animals themselves.
