Through the Quiet Passage is part of my ongoing In the Moonlight series, exploring the transformation of landscape after daylight disappears and a single source of light begins to define the visible world.

The moon hangs above a narrow body of water enclosed by dark, heavily textured shores. Its reflection descends through the center of the composition, shifting from pale silver and cool turquoise to an unexpected passage of warm gold near the foreground.

I built the painting around this vertical movement of light. The surrounding landscape is deliberately dense and uncertain: deep blues, muted greens, violet and near-black tones merge into substantial layers of oil paint. Against them, the illuminated water becomes an opening — a route through the darkness rather than simply a reflection on its surface.

The physical texture is an essential part of the painting. At close range, rocks, vegetation, clouds and water begin to lose their literal identities and dissolve into accumulated marks and broken color. From a distance, these fragments reconnect into a nocturnal landscape.

This tension between recognizable nature and abstraction is central to my recent work. I am interested in what darkness removes from a landscape and what light chooses to reveal.

In Through the Quiet Passage, the moon does not illuminate everything. It creates one narrow path through an otherwise uncertain world.

Medium size stretched painting.
Palette knife art. Impressionism. Realism. Expressionism.
One of a kind artwork.

This artwork will be attached to a stretcher bar and ready to hang without a frame.
