Through Any Storm is an original acrylic painting on board, 30 x 20cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a sky of deep pink and blue, cockatoos and birds moving through the turbulence, and figures who stay steady while everything around them churns.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds, moving through a glowing, imagined Australian landscape. This one is about the kind of love that doesn't ask for calm weather, only for someone willing to stand in it with you.
