Artwork description
Chicago, City of Bridges: This digital art portrays the lift bridges across the Calumet River in Chicago. Many bridges were built along the Calumet River since its development in the 1860s. The Calumet harbor continues to be the region’s busiest port. Since land and water traffic both needed throughways, this has meant the design of movable bridges. Land traffic was halted when ships needed to clear the bridge area. The center-span lift bridges can be seen with the Chicago Skyway Bridge in the background.
Transformation Is true of this region on a symbolic level as well as being my artistic media. The vibrant colors in my art represent the vital role this industrial hub played in developing the Calumet region.
This digital art is from my series, Steel Giants Of The Heartland. The series celebrates the industrial area around 95th Street and the Calumet River, with its bridges, electrical towers, and train tracks. They are powerful icons of a recent era, an era of boundless dynamic energy. These outsized icons now loom here in this gigantic, eerie, outdoor museum. I was drawn to the steel-laced, elevated Skyway bridge that provides a unifying presence running throughout many of my artworks.
My digital art is printed on enhanced matte, archival paper. It is shipped well-protected in a sturdy cardboard tube. If you prefer a larger size print please contact me. I can also provide prints on canvas with a black edge that can be hung without a frame.
