Three fishes with frames (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Egle Colucci

Upon returning from my vacation in Brazil, I immediately began creating colorful, cheerful pieces to keep the spirit of that country alive. I didn’t allow myself to critique such a whimsical concept: depicting portraits using the tails of coral reef fish. I worked with a sense of playfulness, channeling the wonderful, carefree mood of my holiday.

The frames, which evoke the shape of waves, are crafted from papier-mâché and are both sturdy and lightweight. The surfaces are finished with acrylic paint and a coat of varnish. These pieces look fantastic as a trio; when arranged as shown in the photograph, they cover an area of approximately 95 x 85 cm (37.5 x 33.5 in.).

The yellow frame measures 49 x 49 cm (19.3 x 19.3 in.), the orange one 33 x 35 cm (13 x 13.8 in.), and the burgundy one 41 x 36 cm (16.1 x 14.2 in.).
