The Toyma River (2025) Original Oil Painting by Olga Goryunova

This work was painted in the studio based on plein air observations at one of my favorite places — where the Tuima River flows into the great Kama. The 60×100 cm format allowed me to convey the scale and epic quality of this landscape, which always captivates me with its quiet power.
The painting captures the atmosphere immediately after rain. The sky is covered with dense clouds, the light has become soft and diffused, and the greenery has gained a special depth and saturation. The water in the river reflects the leaden sky, creating a sense of calm, almost solemn silence.
I wanted to convey not just the view, but the very feeling of presence. When this painting hangs on the wall, it creates an effect of immersion — as if you step into this landscape, find yourself on the high bank, feel the moist air after the rain and the vastness of the river expanse.
This is a work about the power of Russian nature, about its ability to simultaneously soothe and inspire awe.
