This large canvas is part of a series which has been exhibited in a luxury Parisian hôtel, centered on the theme of the pedestrian crossing. Like a photographic snapshot, it captures the gaze and movement of a young woman walking in the street beneath an umbrella. The three letters of the word »taxi » suggest that she’s crossing the roadway. I emphasized the paint-ting’s vertical format by depicting only her silhouette, viewed from slightly above. Set agains a background of blues and greys, applied with broad brushstrokes, her pink coat and scarlet umbrella stand out vividly. The over all composition is graphic, powerful and contemporary.
