- The Patriarch’s rest
Original artwork description
This mixed media work presents a reclining male figure in a quiet domestic interior, surrounded by cats that soften the scene and introduce a sense of gentle interruption.
The image reflects on the idea of the “resting patriarch” — a symbolic reversal of traditional masculine authority. Instead of dominance or control, the figure is shown in a state of pause, vulnerability, and physical ease, where power is temporarily suspended.
The composition uses watercolor and drawing to blur anatomical clarity, creating a softened, almost dreamlike surface where identity becomes fluid rather than defined. Muted violets, earthy browns, pale greens, and soft neutrals build an atmosphere that oscillates between intimacy and distance.
Rather than depicting a narrative, the work explores rest as a cultural and psychological space — a moment where roles dissolve and authority is quietly undone.
Materials used:
Watercolor, pencil, mixed media on paper
Details:
- Watercolour on Paper
- One of a kind artwork
- Size: 102 x 65 x 0.2cm (unframed)
- Signed certificate of authenticity
