Acrylic painting on canvas. The painting symbolises the natural life cycle and how it develops, and the fact that all of the changes are dynamic and interrelated. The artist shows this through her use of earth tones in a rich ochre for a warm autumnal feel, which works well with the bright summer green. The colours used for the sky-blue background show spring and the coming of lighter and fresher days, and the tree uses a deeper jewel-toned blue which demonstrates the darker winter period. The artist has also incorporated a magpie to show how these changes occur not only through flora but also fauna. The artists uses unique techniques to create a whimsical and three-dimensional painting using both physical texture and light techniques with iridescent colours, making this painting idea for both natural and artificial light each creating their own unique highlights and shadows.
