Original artwork description
Every story reaches the place where one chapter closes, and the white space of what comes next begins. The ending was the beginning all along.
The Last Page is an original acrylic painting on board, 75 x 60cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a landscape of teal, orange and rose fading toward a wide open white, torn pages scattered through the sky, cockatoos gathered below, and two figures perched at the very edge of the colour, looking out into what comes next.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the particular stillness that comes at an ending, when the noise of the story falls away and all that is left is open space, waiting to be written.
Painted with artist quality acrylics on MDF board. Unframed, any framed images shown are for illustration only. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.
