Sunflowers lean and turn in a teal vase, their heavy golden heads catching light against a dramatically dark, slate-grey interior. Thick, urgent brushstrokes build the composition with raw physical energy — the blooms half-lit, half-dissolved into the surrounding darkness, while clusters of small yellow flowers spiral at the base like tiny suns fallen to earth. Flashes of red and blue punctuate the deep background with unexpected warmth. There is something simultaneously melancholic and radiant here — sunflowers past their peak yet glowing still, refusing to surrender their light without a magnificent final display.
