"The Khorezm Bride" (2026) Original Watercolour by Alisher Matchanov

27 x 39 x 0.1cm (unframed)

£222.37

The Khorezm Bride is an original watercolor portrait inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Khorezm, one of the oldest regions along the ancient Silk Road.

The traditional bridal headdress, intricate jewelry, and warm earth tones celebrate the timeless elegance of Uzbek craftsmanship and the beauty of cultural identity. Rather than portraying a specific person, this painting represents the strength, dignity, and grace passed down through generations of women.

Using transparent layers of watercolor, I sought to balance realism with expressive brushwork, allowing light and color to create a sense of warmth and authenticity. Every detail—from the ornate headdress to the subtle facial expression—was painted by hand to preserve the delicate character of the medium.
