The Inner Glow (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Adam Bogusz

There is a warmth that lives at the centre of a person, the kind that no weather outside can ever reach or put out. When you finally stop looking for it elsewhere, you find it was burning quietly in you the whole time, the truest light you own.
The Inner Glow is an original acrylic painting on board, 80 x 30cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a rising column of red and gold, cockatoos gathered in the tree above, and two figures moving along the ridge, one on a bicycle, one seated near the light itself.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the warmth that never comes from outside, the kind you only ever find by finally sitting still long enough to notice it was already there.
