I was born in Luton, UK, that used to be almost entirely given over to the hat industry, hence the name given to the Luton football team and Lutonians in general. The idea for this small series of three paintings was taken from period photographs, in this particular case, 1924 circa. It is also a part of the limited palette work that has been fascinating me recently.
In those days colour wasn't very present in outdoor clothes, but no self-respecting man or woman went out without a hat!
The painting continues on around the gallery wrapped, deep-edged canvas, The Hatters needs no frame and is strung at the back ready to hang in your home.
