The Fountain of Life, or in its earlier form the Fountain of Living Water, is a Christian iconographic symbol associated with baptism and/or the Eucharist. It first appeared in the 5th century in illuminated manuscripts and later in other art forms such as panel paintings. Today, it is part of the collection of the Museo del Prado in Madrid.
Fountains and water sources have played an important role throughout history and are essential to life. A fountain symbolises life, truth, change and water. It represents what we already know, have practised and are prepared to pass on to others. Flowing water in a fountain symbolises the flow of money, happiness and love.
