Sunset over the field. Plein air (2025) Original Oil Painting by Dmitry Fedorov

Capture the fleeting beauty of a late summer evening in the Netherlands. This original oil painting was created en plein air (on-site) in September 2025, capturing the authentic light and atmosphere of the vast Dutch lowlands.
The artwork features a dramatic sunset where the sky is divided into layers of cool blues and vibrant, textured oranges. Using a palette knife and bold brushwork, I’ve applied the paint thickly (impasto) to give the clouds a physical presence and energy that contrasts with the tranquil, receding lines of the green fields.
The horizon is dotted with the soft silhouettes of distant trees, a classic characteristic of the Dutch landscape. This piece isn't just a view; it’s a record of a specific moment in time—the crisp air of September and the quiet transition from day to night.
