Structural Resilience is a contemporary architectural painting from the Architecture of Memory series, exploring how fragments of built space can persist even after their original order has begun to disappear.
Arches, stairways and sections of old walls overlap across a dark ground, creating an architectural structure that feels both unstable and enduring. Rather than depicting a specific building, the composition brings together fragments of different spaces, as if they have been reconstructed through memory.
Warm terracotta, muted pink and violet tones emerge against deep black, while expressive marks, visible drips and broken lines interrupt the geometry of the architecture. Solid forms coexist with unfinished areas, allowing parts of the structure to appear, disappear and reconnect across the surface.
The title Structural Resilience refers not only to the physical endurance of architecture, but also to the persistence of places within memory. Even when their details become fragmented, certain spatial relationships — an arch, a staircase, the turn of a wall — can remain remarkably vivid.
Part of Svitlana Zezekalo’s ongoing Architecture of Memory series, the work reflects on architecture as a framework through which experiences of place are preserved and reconstructed over time.
