Original artwork description:

Detailed academic papers have been written explaining the significance of the background of famous paintings from da Vinci’s Mona Lisa to Munch’s The Scream. Backgrounds are not inherently sexy. But if Mona or the Screamer were depicted in front of bland sterile studio backgrounds would those paintings be as famous as they are? You have to admire some of the Old Masters, like Vermeer say, who would even go to the painstaking trouble of painting a tiny detailed painting on the wall of a room in the background of one of his paintings. This artist spent more time worrying about what to put in the background in this painting here than he did over his own ‘Mona Lisa’, ie, the fabulous enigmatic curves of the Ariete Vintage coffee maker. The easiest thing would have been not to go for the time consuming teaspoon and coffee pod option, but to leave the background plain – a flat white so to speak – but instead he went for quad venti white mocha clarified caramel orthodox frappuccino.
