St. Johannis Kirche Hamburg (2025) Original Watercolour by Shelly Du

I enjoy wandering around the streets of the places I visit and watching people and the architecture. This is my favourite spot in Hamburg. I was sketching one early morning at the bar by the canal with a lovely view of St. Johannis Kirche Hamburg, a charming 1751 church that locals called “the wedding church”and the bridge beside. People working in the bar gradually arrived for work but nobody seemed bothered that I moved a chair and was sitting there while they prepared for the day. When i finished, a young girl said this is the most beautiful thing and it should be in a museum. I thanked her in my broken German that this is definitely the most beautiful thing i heard that day! How lovely to have these heartwarming encounters while i paint or sketch when i travel.
