Soft Golden Silence 03 (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Elise Eekhout

This painting began with a walk across the heath in the early morning. Mist was rising from the ground, while the low sun filtered through the branches of the trees. I was particularly struck by the intense contrast between the purple of the heath and the warm, golden light.

The experience became a starting point for a more formal investigation into light, colour and the transition between representation and abstraction. I built the painting through successive layers, allowing colours, marks and fragments of the landscape to remain visible beneath later layers. The image gradually became less about depicting the landscape and more about capturing its changing atmosphere.

Fragments of a text I wrote during the process are incorporated into the painting. They function not simply as words, but as another layer of memory within the landscape.
