Snail Corals and a Camel Caravan is an oil pastel painting inspired by an unusual encounter with nature in the Mediterranean coastal dunes at sunset.

In the foreground, thorny branches are covered with clusters of small white snails. Their delicate spiral shells transform the dry coastal plants into extraordinary forms resembling underwater corals. The contrast between the living snails and the thorny branches creates an unexpected connection between the worlds of land and sea.

Beyond the plants, a caravan of camels moves along the crest of a coastal dune, silhouetted against a brilliant golden sunset. A glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea appears between the dunes, bringing together the desert-like landscape and the coastal environment.

Vivid yellow, turquoise and violet tones, expressive oil pastel marks and contrasting textures emphasize the unusual beauty of this scene. The painting reflects my fascination with the surprising forms of Mediterranean nature, where ordinary plants and tiny creatures can resemble something from another world.
