In Indian Mythology, it has been said that during the process of Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) God Shiva drank all the poison came out from the ocean. By swallowing the poison Shiva protected all the life on earth.
The painting conveys that Shiva is the only protector, creator and destroyer of any kind of existence, without him our life would have not been possible.
