Original artwork description:

‘Shaman’ is an acrylic painting 102x77cms on canvas. ‘The Shaman sits upon the sand, the sand of ochre clay, between the walls of ruins tall, where ancient one did lay. The sky above, the earth between, took in her sincere pleas tingsha’s toned, soft flutes droned, her mantra’s dire decree.’ This painting recalls ‘shamanic readings’ that relate to altered states of consciousness in order to perceive and interact with a spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world. The painting is an expression of the notion of magic, belief, sound, ancient history and symbolism. It recalls memories of listening to Hispanic music which pulses with layers of percussive patterns. The painting is about the relationship between myself and an audience. There is a coming together of physical and psychological involvement. Linear forms cut through open gestural brushwork. The painting is made with liquid and impasto colour layered over an open untreated canvas.
