This is the second painting I have made of people skating at the temporary skating ring in the Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh that is set up over Xmas and New Year every year. There is so much going on these days around Princess Street what with the skating ring, numerous fairground attractions and many stalls. It is teeming with life. I wanted to capture the sense of movement amongst the skiers, and also try to convey the cold, wintry climate.
