Original artwork description
This painting ‘Second Valley” was inspired by the stunning scenery of South Australia’s south coast, less than 90 km from my home.
Second Valley is a coastal town on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
So the story goes, Colonel William Light was sent from England to locate a place which was to be the capital city of the new state of South Australia. The name is derived from being the next valley north of Rapid Bay, the initial camp on South Australian mainland of Colonel William Light.
The rugged geological formations and steep coastal cliffs help make Second Valley unforgettable, while fishermen know it best for the fine fishing, whether it's from the jetty, rocks or from boats anchored in the bay.
Its protected waters provide scuba divers and snorkellers with a memorable experience, with fur seals and Leafy Sea Dragons often coming out to play.
Once a fishing village, due to its panoramic views and varied activities, it is now a popular place for day trippers and holiday makers.
