Scouler Street 2023 80x100 cm
As the painting developed I introduced one figure after another to start to form a narrative. The woman riding a bike with her shadow animates the space in the painting and began to create a structure, bringing a positive atmosphere to the urban environment, and the heavy skies. I discovered the seated figure worked well with the young boy holding the bird of prey, the boy reminded me of a great youth worker that was a colleague for many years - we first came across him in out local park when he was a teenager and he had a bird of prey. The scene is taking place down by the river thames near Blackwall, on a street called Scouler street London E14, where I first made the drawing.
