RURAL VILLAGE (2025) Original Mixed-media Painting by Paolo Scaglioni

100 x 100 x 0.2cm (unframed) / 100 x 100cm (actual image size)

£2,995.48

A series of overlapping brushstrokes generates multiple layers of interpretation, suggesting hyper-stylized environments in which perspective and depth remain in constant tension. I am interested in the shifting spatial relationships that emerge from these layers, and in the possibility of becoming immersed in them—of allowing the eye to move through the work rather than simply observe it.
The work is executed on a Plexiglas sheet, 0.08 inches thick. The reverse side is painted black, creating a deep, opaque ground, while the front is worked with brushstrokes made from wall plaster. The transparency of the support and the materiality of the plaster create a dialogue between surface and depth, image and object, inviting the viewer to perceive the painting as a space rather than a fixed representation.

Materials used:

Plexiglas, watercolors, wall filler
