Award-Winning Original Pastel Painting

Royal is an original pastel wildlife portrait celebrating the strength, beauty and commanding presence of the tiger.

What fascinates me most about lions is not simply their physical power, but the natural dignity and confidence they possess. There is an unmistakable sense of authority in their presence — calm, assured and effortless.

With Royal, I wanted to capture that character through expression rather than aggression. The lion's gaze and magnificent mane create a portrait that feels powerful yet composed, reflecting the qualities that inspired the title.

The artwork was created entirely by hand using professional artist-quality pastels on paper. I gradually developed the portrait through many layers, combining soft tonal transitions with extremely fine pastel strokes to create depth, texture and the natural movement of the fur and mane.

For me, wildlife realism is about more than technical accuracy. My aim is to capture something of the animal's individuality and presence — creating a portrait that allows the viewer to experience the character of the animal as well as its beauty.
