This work was recently selected for the 86th Santa Cruz Land and Sea Exhibit. This is a yearly show and out of 400 entries, 80 were selected. Reef Fish was also among 5 paintings selected for special merit.
The inspiration for this painting was from talks with my son who has a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology, specializing in marine life. The reef fish are stunning in their beauty of color and design; painting them is like painting magical creatures. Our coral reefs are home to 25% of all marine life and are disappearing. This painting may already be a tribute to the past.
