Quiet Land 05 (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Elise Eekhout

‘Quiet Land 05’ was created as part of a series in which I explored the boundary between landscape and abstraction through colour, light and reduction.

For this painting, I used a text I wrote myself, ‘Along the River’, as a starting point. It describes an early morning walk beside a river: mist rising from the water, the first sunlight breaking through, reflections shimmering on the surface, and the landscape slowly coming to life.

Rather than illustrating the text, I translated its atmosphere into colour, light and fragments of landscape. The painting explores how a familiar place can become almost abstract when experienced through light, memory and feeling.
