This painting is made from many layers of paint, "dots and blobs" layered up in an impressionistic style. This detailing shows in the close up photos. I really enjoyed doing this painting. I enjoyed painting the background as much as the actual flowers! The reds oranges, pinks and yellows swirl around the irises and bring the painting to life!

It is a long thin horizontal painting. It reflects how the flowers grow along the border in the garden. I grow many irises in my back garden, and keep collecting new ones each year. The purple ones are stunning especially when they are back lit, as it produces so many colours within their petals. I have probably painted more irises than any other flower!

The painting is on canvas. it is painted with Paynes Grey ( a very dark grey, almost black) on the sides. this gives a framed like effect when viewed from the side.

Materials used:

Acrylic paints. UV varnish.
