About the work:
With this painting, I wanted to express that success, survival or maintaining inner freedom is not free. Every day that we successfully manage has its exact "price" - expressed in effort, wounds on the body and soul and in the invisible burdens that each of us carries with us.
The work carries a lot of symbolism, the dramatic use of light and anatomy added.
The main elements of symbolism:
1. Artificial, strapped wings indicate that the "ability to fly" or reach a higher goal is not a natural gift for the character, but something that she had to build or force herself.
2. Physical effort and pain: The ropes cut into the skin and holding the whole mechanism requires enormous effort. This expresses the idea that every single successful day when a person stays "up" requires enormous personal sacrifice, pain and self-denial.
3. The turned back and bowed head symbolize looking into one's own interior, the fatigue of carrying a heavy burden that one prefers to hide from the world.
4. The contrast of the blue sky and the dark figure: The clean, bright background symbolizes freedom, peace and an ideal world. However, for the figure in the foreground, this reality is redeemed by heavy chains. A person can move in a nice environment on the outside, but inside he is waging a constant battle.
If you find parallels with your own life in the symbolism of the painting, the painting is ideal for your interior. However, considering the symbolism, it is also suitable for workplaces.
