Portuguese escape (2022) Original Acrylic Painting by Sophie HORS

I was inspired by the distinctive light of Cascaïs, on the Portuguese coast when I painted this piece. In Cascais, the town’s Main Street is lined with colorful façades and tall palm trees. There is something sunny and spontaneous about this place and I have chosen to draw up the eye upwards towards the sky and the soaring palm trees; these are kind of the main characters of the painting. The fluffy white clouds create a striking contrast with the deep blue sky and the vibrant colors of the buildings. As often in my work, color takes central stage in the composition. The overall is playful, contemporary and full of life.
